Orders

Just a quick blog this evening while I wait for my tablets to kick in.

If you get a custom order to make something that doesn't inspire you do you still make it?

I agreed to make a scoodie (hood, hat, scarf n mittens all in one) with a tiger theme. I was alright so far when I accepted it. Then when it came to what she really wanted my thoughts didn't feel inspired. They want the scoodie to have ears, no face, still doing ok but in cream and brown. The pictures they liked were in the nomal orange n black with white on the inside of the ear. White doesn't look right against the cream n brown. So cream ears. The black of the paws n claws didn't look right so they are now brown. I haven't finished the stripes yet but if they were in orange n black I think they would look better. I want to give my customers my best work but I understand that you also need to supply the customer with what they want.

I'm making this one now but I don't know if I'd do it again. I don't think it helps me mentally or shows off what I can really do. I'm still making it to my best so the customer will hopefully will love it!

FO Friday 06/01/12

Confession time - I don't have any FO's to show this week.  I have finished one item off but haven't had chance to photograph it yet.

I made my son a bag for his marbles.  He wanted it as soon as he saw it so I haven't had chance to take a photo of it yet.

This week has been really busy so I haven't had much chance to crochet.  My husband went into hospital for an explority operation.  Luckily everything is fine so I can stop stressing now.  The nhs paid for him to go private and it was like another world!  He got taken to his own on suite room with t.v. and electronic bed with room service.  I stayed in the room whilst he went for his op and then 2 hours after the op he was allowed home. He got fresh sandwiches made for him once he came round with a lovely salad and pot of coffee.

My mum and dad had little Red overnight so that I could look after hubby.  I went and picked him up and then we went to see an old school friend.  She has 3 wonderful children and little red really enjoyed playing with all their toys.

It was swimming this evening and then my brother came round to borrow our roof box.

I have lots of ideas for this year and can't wait to get the time to make them all.  I hope you'll all join me for the fun.  If there is an animal hat you would really like to see being made just let me know as I am planning on trying to make as many different animals as I can.

I may not have any FO's this week but please click on the link to take at look at some that have :-)

WIP Wednesday 04/01/12

Welcome to WIP Wednesday

I only have one WIP Wednesday but it's going to be one that appears for quite a while:

Sorry about the light but it's just been sooo dull lately!

Not a bad start to 2012 :-)

I have a rocking chair that my grandad gave to me.  It is fully covered in a lovely cream fabric.
With a 5 yr old son and a dog it isn't staying very cream.  I plan to make it big enough so that when you sit on the chair you won't have to move the blanket.  I'm giving myself the year to make it so I don't feel under pressure.

If you would like the pattern the free pattern link is below:

Welcome 2012

I was going to wait till Wednesday to blog but I'm too excited!!!!!

To start 2012 I decided to sort my stuff out.  I was good and only did an hour then an hour rest etc so it's taken me a while but it's sorted!   I am just so happy.  My kind husband let me get a new bookcase for the bedroom so I could sort my books and things out.

Then above our cupboards I now have all my yarn sorted.  Each draw has a different colour in and in the baskets each bag holds a different colour.  I know where everything is and can easily find everything now!  Since I learnt to crochet I have been buying bits and bobs off ebay and going to wool shops at the market etc for the exact colour.  I have recently bought my first yarn from a yarn website so the plastic bags hidden round the house just weren't good enough anymore.  Everytime I go into the bedroom now it just makes me smile :-)

The cardigan is a wonderful present from my mum and dad for christmas.

The pictures are of my son and some of hubby as well.  Each year we get a calendar printed for all the family of different pictures of little red (my son). As the year ends and the calendar is finished I cut out the pictures and put them up round our and my sons bedroom.

Hopefully now I'm organised I'll be more productive with the yarn I've got :-)

What space do you have for all your crafty things.

The other thing to squeee about is I've ordered some things so I can try some different things this year.  I can't wait for them to come, pictures will be posted when they arrive but it might take upto 25days to arrive :-(.  I have ordered a full set of tunisian hooks, tunisian hooks with the flexible ends and a set of knitting needles.  All are in bamboo because I love working with naural hooks and needles. I wish I could afford wood but I am hoping to get one of my favorite sized crochet hooks in wood for my birthday - roll on March!

Anyway it's time for my number one son to go to bed.  Hope you like my post.  Let me know what you have set-up for your things.

Crochet Along

My First Square is finished.  My first ever basic granny square:

My son choose the colour.  I don't think it will make it onto a blanket he's run off with it :-)

Welcome everyone to 2012

My List for 2012:

I have now joined Ali's A Granny A Day

I may not make one a day but I at least want to make one a week :-).  Click on the picture to go over and join in.

I have also joined:

I have downloaded the pattern for my first 6" square.

The other crochet along I have joined is:

http://foodandfibers.com/2011/12/15/january-crochet-along-square
I am struggling on the circle one.  Had to give-up and frog a few times now :-(
But I've finished my food and fibres square:

I choose to do mine in a finer yarn and one colour as it was my first real go at doing a crochet sqaure.  I'm going to pin it to keep it's shape and then it will be ready to join to next months :-)

I am also going to try and make 2 mittens and 2 hats a month for the african orphanage.  I am awaiting a reply from the orphange about setting up a website so watch this space.

I also have my wishlist.  I have already started my african flower blanket and have nearly finished my first 30 hexagons.  Photo's to follow on WIP Wednesday.

Hope you all have a fantastic 2012!
