Review Monday Week 9

This week I would like to review

my sons favorite books

These are the books you can rely on to cheer him up.

Ryan has two of the books out of the series.

The Big Blue Train

   

&

The Big Red Bath

The books are hardback.

They have bright and colourful pages.

The pictures are interesting and there are different things that keep the child interested.

The big blue train is about Ben & Bella.

It starts in the playroom (if you look you can spot the animals)

and as each page changes so do the animals

that are joining them in the train to get

to someones birthday party.

The book ends with Ben & Bella going to bed.

The stories rhyme and are really good fun to read as well as for the child to enjoy.

The big red bath is set in the bath

with dad doing the bathing of Ben & Bella.

Each page a new animal trys to join them in the bath.

The bath splish & splashes. Bubbles go all over the place.

At the end of the story who comes through the door ........

These are really fun books that I am sure

every child will enjoy.

I have been reading these to Little Red for well over a year

and we still love them.

Review Monday Week 8

I hope you are having a good start to the week!
And I hope everyone that had mothers day yesterday
had a fantastic day!

Little Red is off to visit Skipton Castle today with school.
He is so excited!

I've got a lovely throat infection so am

trying just to rest and get back to a place where I can feel like I can cope.

I'm still in the middle of my crash at the moment

so getting ill really hits me hard.

I'm having to sleep downstairs as I keep 

waking up choking and having an asthma attack.

I prop myself up on loads of pillows but end

up moving down the bed off them in my sleep.

If I'm on the couch I have to stay propped up.

It also isn't nice for hubby if I keep waking him up.

For this weeks review I have something

that I bought to do with Little Red. 

It's a Wooden little loom

I bought mine from ebay 

but you can get equivalents from other shops.

This is only a small loom and designed for children.

I wanted to get something that Little Red would be able to join in with.

With the kit you get 5 small balls of yarn (the red wasn't supplied)

the loom (10.1" by 7.9")

a comb

a shuttle stick

and a plastic needle.

I set up the loom but it isn't too difficult.

Little Red found it really easy to use and was doing it himself

after only being shown once.

I would of preferred to get two shuttles as we had to unwind the yarn

to put another colour on.

The instructions supplied are clear but I don't think they are easy

enough for a child to understand.

Within a couple of minutes we were making something.

As you can see Little Red hasn't finished his first project.

He is only 5 and his attention span isn't quite that good.

I would recommend getting a small loom

for a young child as it makes them feel that

they can make something like mummy does.

I wouldn't of got it any earlier for Ryan as I don't find boys

have as long an attention span as girls.

We are eventually going to make it into a bag.

it make take us the next six months but we will get there.

I have just started reading
The Third Son by Elise Marion

I haven't read much yet but the story is set around
a Prince called Damien & a fiery Gypsy girl, Esmeralda
I'll review it once I've finished reading it.
So far I love the story and it's twists and turns.

Review Monday Week 7

I hope you all had a good weekend

& for those of us in the U.K. I hope you are having a good bank holiday weekend.

This week I've got to review my favorite series of books.

I was meant to be review one but I ended up reading two.

Hubby has been really busy this weekend painting.

I'm going to make you wait till Wednesday to see where we are up to.

He has done an excellent job!

I love how it is looking.

The next job is the t.v. unit but 

that can wait a while.

I think we are going to paint it the same satin white

with a green hint on the doors and a green fabric behind the glass.

I have finished the Alien & UFO so come back tomorrow
for Tuesday's Patterns to see what it looks like.

Anyway onto my reviews.

The first is on book 3

Shadow Kiss
By Richelle Mead

I read mine on the kindle.
I purchased this myself & am receiving nothing in return.
All views expressed are my own.

This is by far the best book in the series yet!

I spent most of the time either laughing or crying!

I don't know what it is about the way Richelle writes

but I felt like I was in the story.

Things take a big twist in this book and the outcome isn't

what you want or expect.

I'm not going to give you loads of details because I want you to read the book for yourself.

Hubby couldn't stop laughing at my sobbing as I read this book.

The books are centered around 2 main characters (Rose & Lissa)

& their life at the Vampire Academy.

Rose is Dhampir (a bodyguard) &

Lissa is a Moroi (Vampire Princess)

There are many characters but you never feel that you don't know each one.

Richelle lets you get to know each one without it affecting the story.

Please if you love a Vampire book read this series.

I couldn't wait to read the next one.

I give this book 5 out of 5

Wow!

I wondered how Richelle could top Shadow Kiss.

I didn't know how the story could carry on.

I didn't know how Lissa would carry on.

Change the location atmosphere & how the characters work.

Take Lissa away from Rose & thinks can only take a twist.

This really worked and brought a fantastic new dimension to the story.

The previous stories had only really been set within the academy & the royal court

but with this twist a whole new world opened up.

It left you hoping and wondering.

The only thing is which way will it go?

I have to give the book 5 out of 5

I couldn't give it any less than perfection.

I leave comments on posts where I love what

they have made/ have a view on the topic or feel the blogger needs a lift.

I always respond to comments - I also reply on the page as well so people can tell I am reading what

I am writing even if they are a blogger with no email address.

I think negative/spam comments need to be ignored.

I don't use captcha, I think it stops some people from responding.

Review Monday Week 6

Wow Monday Already!

Little Red decorated a bag this week at Craft Club.

The picture of the badgers is also 3-D.

He loves going to Craft Club.

I have a couple of things I want to review this week.

First of all is a book we got from the library.

We loved it that much that we have ordered a copy for us.

It has a really good story to read, fantastic pictures &

each page covers a different letter.

On the first page is the letter A.

There are different things within the page that

begin with the letter A.

Then it's time to spot & name the things.

We have spent 5 evenings this week

spotting things and seeing what we missed.

Little Red loves I spy so this book is perfect.

I love a book that you can interact with

& join in together.

I would highly recommend this book! 

The next thing I would like to review is:

The Bissell Powerforce Turbo.

I used to have a dyson, till I blew that up.

I then got a reconditioned Vax but I blew that up as well.

I really didn't like the Vax but the Bissell seems a lot better.

Pro's:

Bagless vacuum

Really good price £79.95 

Filters are all washable & don't need to keep replacing.

Includes a number of tools: 

Turbo Brush crevice tool, extension wand and combination dusting brush/upholstery tool

2 metre stretch hose and 8 metre power cord for simple above ground cleaning

Safe for all carpets and hard floors.

Hubby has used it the most as I'm not very well at the moment.

It seems to have done a really good job.

I will keep you up to date as it gets more use but so far:
The pros are:

The suction is fantastic and you can tell it's done a really good job.

the parts fit well and don't fall off all the time.

They are really easy to fit and swap.

It is picking up the dog hairs really well & the mud and dust that goes with the dog.
Cons:
When you are using the hose it tends to fall over
The compartment that holds the dirt and dust isn't very big.
Pro/Con
The container holding the dirt and dust is easy to get out but it doesn't have something
to carry it to the bin.  When you take it out of the hoover the top is open.

At the moment I am reading:

Shadow Kiss by Richelle Mead

This is the 3rd book in the series.

As you know I love this series of books.

The books are centered around 2 main characters (Rose & Lissa)

& their life at the Vampire Academy.

I am hooked. I even ended up crying when reading book 2 Frostbite.

Review Monday Week 5

I hope you all had a fantastic weekend!

Little Red had his first week at Craft Club last week.

Each week they make something different.

This week Little Red made a card.

The card is in the shape of a cupboard & draws.

Inside the cupboard is:

He is very pleased with it.

This week I would like to Review:

The reason why I'm reviewing it on Monday

and not putting the details on Friday is

because I don't think I'll be able to 

finish it.

The book is centered around a girl called Diana.

She has nightmares each night

about being killed in different era's and in different ways.

From this you then find out why and what she has to do in this life time.

The book is well written and I do enjoy the story behind it.

My only problem is as more and more characters

come into the story and more and more past lives

are brought in I couldn't keep up with it.

Each part of each chapter can have multiple characters

& multiple flash backs.

The author does section each one off but I still got frustrated

by having to figure who was talking and what era they are talking about.

The book is well written it's just with my CFS I haven't got

enough concentration to keep up with the story.

Review Monday Week 3

I hope you are all having a fantastic Easter!

Ours was meant to be a nice relaxing quiet one

but the battery on our car died.

Poor hubby tried to charge it etc

but it wasn't for working so off to the shops he went.

Luckily he knows what he is doing so

bought and fitted a new one.

Thank goodness we have a working car.

Hubby was on the way to the shops to get

some food when it broke down.

After he fixed the car him and Little Red went

shopping as well.

This week I am reviewing a cookie packet mix

&

a cookie cutter set.

I bought the cookie mix from our local supermarket & cost £1.28

I bought the cookie cutter set from Ebay for £3.69

First I'll look at the cookie mix:

There are pro's and cons to the cookie mix.

Everything is in one bag & all you have to add is an egg, water & oil.

Then mix.

This is really easy for when you are working with younger children

or just want something quick and easy to make.

They only take 10mins to cook

so there is a quick gratification for the work you have put in ;-)

I personally don't enjoy the way they smell.

Everyone really enjoyed the taste and we even had one relative ringing

asking for the recipe.

I would recommend the cookie receipe for the quickness, ease & taste.

I don't like the way they smell but hubby says that is just me.

Cookie Cutters:

Little Red made these with his daddy and used the cookie cutters to shape them.

I find the metal cookie cutters are easy to use, easier to clean

& you can use them with you crafts as well.

The cutters are fantastic for using with

salt dough

fimo

needle felting.

After being cut the cookies kept their shape really well.

Here is how they turned out:

As you can see they really kept their shape well.

Ryan also used a dinosaur cutter (hence the extra shapes)

I love the way the shapes came out so well.

Really fun & just the shapes for Easter.

Review Monday Week 2

Good Morning Everyone!

I hope you all had a good weekend and are ready for the week ahead.

I can't believe it's April already!

This weekend has been very strange.

Little Red stayed at his Gran & Granddads

We dropped him off on Friday evening

and we didn't pick him up again till Sunday afternoon.

It's the longest he has been away

and part of me felt lost all weekend.

I'd got behind on reading my blogs

so Saturday was just a catch up day.

Hubby had to drop his brother off at the airport with his family.

Then on the Sunday he had to pick

his mum and her husband up from the airport.

Hillery is having a 50% sale and all funds are going to

her sisters family.

Her sisters husband had a stroke whilst working away.

\This week I would like to review the Kindle

I love my kindle.

I know they aren't for everyone but if you read they are invaluable.

The facts of why I love my kindle:

1)  I can have a multitude of books on tap and ready for me to read

2) If I find a book I really want to read I can have it there ready

3) When I go on holiday I don't have to pack loads of books.

4) I can load pdfs onto my kindle so I can add patterns and take them everywhere with me.

5) The kindle is so light and fits in my bag.

6) Due to the way the screen shows the text it doesn't cause eye strain or set off my migraines

7) I have even bought a waterproof cover so I can read in the bath.

The cons:

1) It is in black and white so my 5 year old isn't interested in reading books on it.

2) Mine doesn't have 3G so I have to make sure I have enough books to keep me going

3) you have to be careful that you don't put anything heavy on top of the kindle.

When we went away my old kinde fell out of the bag in the boot and something fell on it.

The screen was ruined and hence the new kindle.

4) as there is no keyboard it can take a while to enter anything you want.

5) It takes time to organise your books if you have a lot of them.

6) I don't like putting instructional books like crochet books etc on the kindle

I prefer a hard copy as it's easier to open the page at what you want. 

7) Although it shows you the percentage of how much you have read I would prefer to read how many pages I have read and how many pages there are in the book.

Things that are a + and a -

the weight is 170 grams - I have mine in a cover so it feels heavier. 

I cannot get used to holding something so light.

Up to 1,400 books or 2GB internal (approximately 1.25GB available for user content) - 

you have to read a lot to be able to get through that amount of books!

When I got my first kindle I went on a mission and downloaded hundreds of free

books.  I haven't even dented the amount I downloaded.

I use calibre to convert any other types of books I buy so that I can read them on my kindle.

Do you use any other programs to get your books onto your kindle.

The kindle does allow you to go onto websites but to be honest I prefer to use my kindle 

just for reading books.

I am upset that amazon hasn't released the Kindle Fire in the UK yet.

I'm really interested in buying one for my son.

He doesn't like the Kindle as it's in black and white.

We love books and he has 3 bookcases full of them.

I would prefer something like the Kindle Fire as it doesn't take as much space.

Review Monday Week 1

Good Morning Everyone!

Well it's actually sunny here still!

Little Red has spent the weekend playing out in the back garden.

Hubby had to work on Sunday so me and Little Red spent the morning together.
Then when hubby got back we all went with
my father-in-law and his partner to a garden centre.
It was my first real trip out since this crash.
Little Red, Granddad and Daddy
went on a miniature train round the grounds.
Me & Nana pottered round the garden centre.
It was nice to get out but I had to come back for a rest whilst they all went
round to theirs to play on the wii.

It makes such a difference when the weather is nice!

It's fantastic being able to sit in the conservatory

I got some wonderful things for my birthday:

 I got some yarn as well :-)
&
I've still got some presents to come.

I would like to review a children's set of books this week:

You can buy these books individually or in box sets.

We have two box sets already for Little Red.

No matter what his mood is he is always cheered up by these books.

The books are based around one family:

Mr & Mrs Boot, Poppy & Sam, the dog Rusty & other characters.

The illustrations are fantastic!

Little Red loves just looking at the pictures.

The other good thing about the illustrations is the fact

that each page has a hidden little duck.

We read the book first and then go back through

trying to find all the ducks.

The stories are fantastic in themselves.

The writing is big and clear.

The story is short but is still interesting.

Little Red loves readying what they all get up to

& each story is completely different.

I also like the fact that the stories

aren't too long!

They are just the right length for a bedtime story.

I love the way Little Red Interacts with these books!

I would highly recommend them.

I haven't received anything in return to the above review.

I have no affiliation with anyone & the views are my own.

I learnt a tough lesson this weekend.

I quoted someone prices for a number of hat patterns

I then read my figures wrong when converting it for payment

This meant they were only paying for the discount rather than the discounted price.

Then the customer didn't have a paypal account

so agreed to a money order.

I have now found out, it take 8 weeks to receive your money

& it costs you £8 - $12.69

None of this is the customers fault it is all my own

but I have learnt a hard lesson.

From now on Paypal payments only for international buyers

& I'll get hubby to check the figures first.
