What You Doing Wednesday Week 23

I can't believe we are nearly at the end of August!
I hope your month has gone well
& your week is going well so far!

Now this week I've got quite a few hats on the go.
I am in the middle of making a "Julia Cloche"
I bought the pattern from:
I am altering the pattern slightly as I want a slightly different look.
Just the headband to fit and flower to make.

Now I have bad news about the other hat I was making.
I made it:
Sorry about the awful picture.
I was at the end of my tether at this point
& just wanted to frog it.
The pattern just worked out too long and too big.
I changed hook size etc and my gauge was coming out a lot smaller
than the pattern required but it was still huge!!!!
So I decided to design my own
but you'll have to wait to see that one.

Now as you may or may not know I set-up a group
I sent a question out asking what animal hats people
would like to see made.
I got quite a few ideas so I have made a start on them.
First we have the Frog Hat

We have the Ladybird (ladybug) Hat

We have the Meerkat Hat

The mouse hat

Just the basic hats to make up for the whale, bear & chicken
to make up next.
I'll make the basics up first and then onto the features.
I'll hopefully have some to show you on Friday
& then more next week.

This week I am reading:
Kindle:
Book:
So far it's looking like a really good book.
I'll let you know more when
I do my review.

Update on the butterflies
They ALL hatched into butterflies.
We kept them for a couple of days,
feeding them on sugar water
& then we let them free.

This is one sat on Daddy's hand
As you can tell Little Red was very
excited when they flew off.
He even picked flowers for them before they flew off :-)

I would highly recommend this project to do with kids.
Little Red loved coming down each morning
and seeing how much bigger they were.
The bit were they were in the cocoon was a bit boring
but when they came out it made his year!
The best thing is they will hopefully increase the population round here so we will see more.
We have kept the kit and may send off for another batch next year.

Now it's your turn to share what you are doing.
It doesn't have to be crochet, anything you are making
is perfect.

I've Made Friday Week 23

Hi everyone!
Hope you have all had a good week!

I've got some good news and some bad news.
The good news is we are having a fantastic family week.
The bad news is that I haven't anything this week.
I know shock horror!
Hopefully it will mean I'll have more finished off for you next week.
I'll also have the stories of what we've been up to this week.

One story I will tell already is Ryan's butterflies have hatched.
We couldn't believe it.
We came down to find one hatched in the morning
and then through the day they started appearing.
Little Red was sooo excited!
He wanted to release it straight away but I said that we were allowed
to keep them till the next day and then we would set them free into the wild.
We've put plants in with sugar water dripped on them
& a lid with soaked kitchen roll as well.

This Week I read:
Kindle

Book:

I loved this book.
I loved how the present twisted into the past.
Only once Ruth understands her families
past does she start to understand herself & her mother.
Over the book her relationships change with everyone.
It is beautifully written & I love learning
the Chinese superstitions and how it changed the path of her family.
This is for the good and the bad.
I would highly recommend this book.
I will be reading some more of this authors books!
I give this book 5 out of 5.

Now it's your turn
It doesn't have to be crocheting
anything you've made is more than welcome!

What You Doing Wednesday Week 21

Wow half way through the week already!

I still have one white hat left

Yes that means another hat is made up :-)
Here is your sneak peak

I am making a hat for myself at the moment:
I bought the pattern off etsy.
This is what it should hopefully look like when finished
Crochet Pattern Womens FLAPPER HAT Cloche With Side Pinch Pleats PDF May Resell Finished
I've bought a number of her designs.

My brother is getting married in November.
It's about time.
I'm finding it a bit daunting as with
it being in the autumn
I am worried about my CFS.
I am really pleased for him and his partner Ali!
I have decided that as crochet is such a big part
of my life I want it to be part of my outfit for the day.
I've picked my dress & have decided to make myself
a hat, shawl & maybe my bag as well.
I am going to add a small posy of flowers to the hat
where it is pinched.
I am going to add the same flowers to my bag
& make a corsage as well.
I don't know whether I will manage it all
but I am really looking forward to making it :-)

Little Red's caterpillars are coming along nicely.
They are all now in their cocoons.
Now it's just a waiting game.
They got soooo big before they started their transformation
When they first came
The size before they started their cocoons
 Them hanging in thier cocoons
Them ready in their habitat.
Just a week to go and we will hopefully
have some beautiful
painted lady butterflies :-)

I am reading The Bonesetter's Daughter
by Amy Tan
Kindle:

Book:

The story starts off about a women
and her life as it changes
with some family issues appearing.
It's all about her life at the start
& about who she is.
The story then starts to include
information about
her family that she never knew.
It's a mix of all the emotions
and is beautifully written.

I only started it yesterday & I'm nearly half way through.
It's one of those books that touches your heart.
I'll tell you more about it when I review it.

What You Doing Wednesday Week 20

Good morning everyone.
I hope your week is going well so far!

Benji still has his cough
but is more himself.

Little Red's caterpillars are coming along

Each morning Little Red gets up & checks out the size of his caterpillars.
They are growing super fast!

We bought him the pack for his birthday.
You get a net holder for when they have hatched into butterflies
and a form to send off for your caterpillars
to be sent to you.
Your caterpillars come in the post
in the above container.
The container holds all the food the 4 or 5
caterpillars will need.
Once they are in their chrysalis you
move them into the net cage.
Once they have hatched you keep the butterflies for 2 days
& then you let them free.

It is a fantastic learning experience for kids!

I finished Deathly Hallows
so my review will be there on Friday.
I am now reading
Ordained by Devon Ashley
Kindle:

Book:

So far this book has a fantatic start.
I'm 14% in and this has such a different twist
on the vampire theme!
I'll tell you more about it when I have finished reading it :-)

I'm not quite up to my normal standard
but I have got some WIPs this week

I still have my 3 hats not finished but
I have made all of the parts for one of them:
I'm not going to tell you what it is,
you'll have to wait for the reveal on Friday
:-)

I am also making another
Angel Bear Blanket.
My fantastic friend Melissa
from Lazy Daisy Crochet
she has designed these for a fantastic
charity & I'll be sending my bears their way.
