Guest Blogger Week 45 Catalope Deisgns

I would like to say a huge welcome
to Ivory

Firstly, I would like to thank Susan of CrochetAddictUK for allowing me to write a guest blog here!

Next, I would like to introduce myself!  My name is Ivory, I studied psychology in college, married an Engineer, and years later I gave birth to our son Noah.

I came into the world of yarn, needles, and hooks during college, because all of my friends were trying out this "granny craft" and it looked cool.  I don't know about you, but I love to learn new things.  So I originally picked up knitting needles, but later on my college roommate taught me how to crochet (and would fix my mistakes while I was away at class or work)!  I was pretty much "hooked" after that!   I taught myself how to read patterns, joined swap groups, and even started to design my own projects.

So when I was asked to write for this blog, I spent a good hard time trying to think of something really interesting to write!   So, I thought since it's December, and Christmas was just here and gone, I thought of this story that actually happened to my husband and I.

A couple weeks after my husband and I got married, his grandmother passed away, this was in 2007.   In November of 2008 I had my son, Noah. When we came home, my mother in law had left a package on our table. Inside was this beautiful baby blanket (pictured above) made out of granny squares. My husband's aunt, apparently saw her making it one day and asked, "Who's that for?" To which she replied, "I don't know, I am just making it for someone." When she passed away, my husband's aunt found this in her home.  Apparently she kept it, and when she found out about my son, she just knew that it was something she made for her great-grandchild, one that she never got to meet.  Neither of us had a dry face after that!

This is what crochet means to me, the act of lovingly making something and then passing it on to someone who might not need it, but deserves it!   I can make a blanket that keeps my son warm, or a dishcloth that will last ten times as long as a regular store bought one, or crochet a toy that isn't mass produced.   It really is the thought that counts, and you after reading this, can you ever think contrary again?

I've Made Friday Week 40

I hope everyone had a fantastic Christmas and is ready for the New year coming.

I'm afraid I haven't finished anything this week.
As you can imagine with visiting family.
Spending time with Hubby & Little Red
there hasn't been much time for crocheting.

I can however show you what presents I got for christmas.
As you know I got my 2 dolls
so I can start designing more baby items:
R.C. & Jack Frost
(Little Red named them. R.C. is out of transformers)
I called the girl Sophie but it's now become a habit
to call her R.C.

I got a beautiful wooden hook.

I also got:
A lite hook.
The weather has been so dismal lately that crocheting
with any dark yarn isn't fun.
Hence a lite hook :-)

I also got quite a few clothes and other things for my dolls.
My mum and dad are also taking us to London.
Little Red really wants to go but as you can imagine with my
illness it is difficult for me to be able to handle going
round London.
My mum and dad have arranged that me, hubby, Little Red
& them are going.
I can then go out with them in the morning
and spend the afternoon resting.
I am so blessed to have such a fantastic family.

What You Doing Wednesday Week 40

I hope you all had a fantastic Christmas Day!

We are still spending time with family
so there won't be any WIPs this week.

We'll be back to normal next week.

Now it's your turn to share what you are doing.
It doesn't have to be crochet, anything you are making
is perfect.
