Guest Blogger Week 7 The Full Plate

I would like say a big welcome to Lindy from:

Thanks Sue for letting me guest post today on your blog!  My name is Lindy and I’m a stay at home mom to my two boys.  Outside of raising my boys and crocheting, I help with Sunday School at church, am on the leadership team for my MOPS (Mothers of Preschoolers) group, and helping with a nursing support group.  I have a full plate, hence the name of my etsy shop “The Full Plate”.  We all need a side of creative and crafty with our full plates of life.

A few months ago I entered a contestto create a crocheted item using a “new to me” stitch.  It is the chain single crochet- abbreviated ch.sc (this is the American term, adjust accordingly!).  I ended up being pleasantly surprised with the item I crocheted (using 2 variations of the stitch) and even more surprised that I was one of the two winners.  You can read about it on my blog right here.  I’m excited to share the ch.sc with all of you!

I’ve slowly become addicted to the ch.sc.  I love the way it looks.  One of my favorite things to do with this “new” stitch is to use it as the edging on my hats.  It turns in a little and makes the edge lay very nicely. I hope you can see it in my example pictures.  In my mind, it is a cross between a half double and single crochet.

How to crochet a ch.sc
(instructions were originally taken from mypicot.com.  These are my version of the instructions.  You can find more information on my blog).

Insert hook into next stitch, yarn over and pull up a loop (2 loops on hook), yarn over and draw through one loop (2 loops left on hook), yarn over and draw through remaining loops.  One loop left on the hook.

Now, my favorite part, use it!  Here are some hats.  The red and navy hat was finished with a regular single crochet.  The other hats were finished with the ch.sc.   Visit my blogfor some links to different variations of the stitch and other information.  Happy hooking!
