What You Doing Wednesday Week 14

Wow the middle of the week already.

I hope your week is going well!

Ours has been a bit mixed.
Little Red's school is having an
Olympic celebration week.
They are going to school in their games kit
and have activities each day.
Tuesday they were learning to skip (Little Red didn't manage it).
Today they are trying wall climbing.
As you can imagine Little Red is enjoying the different things
he is getting to try.

They have started a new "reward" system at school.
I'm not sure how I feel about it.
Every class has a board marking where each child is on the behaviour scale.
Each day they start on green.
If they get warned they go to orange & then the worst is red.
If they behave especially well they go to silver
& if they are extra special they go to gold.
If they go below green they don't get a stamp at the end of the day.
If they get silver they get a silver band.
If they get gold they get a gold band.
Orange and they just don't get a stamp but with red
a letter is sent home and if it keeps happening you get asked into school.
It has only been going 2 days but there have already been children refusing
to come out of school crying.
Little Red got a green stamp both days but
came out telling me how he had been warned and gone onto orange once.
He behaved the rest of the day so got moved up again.
I know the thinking behind it but
I'm worried about how it can be used by the bullies.
If you are always getting golds and silvers then they will pick on you for
being a goody two shoes.
There is also the fact that the children are showing off to each other where they are at
and making the ones who are on a lower colour feeling detejcted.
Fingers crossed it goes well.
To support it we have said that if Little Red gets a green he is allowed
to pick a sweet from the shop.
If he gets silver he can pick a magazine
& if it's gold he can pick a toy.

I have started a Penguin Bag
but I am only at the start and it's in black so
not very exciting.
I will hopefully get it finished for Friday :-)

I haven't worked on my blankets this week.
They have gone on a bit of a back burner whilst I
get some of the ideas out of my head.

My WIP is my patterns this week.
I have opened my pattern book
and decided to get them typed up.

These are the ones completed and are in the process of being tested
(testers still required)
And I have another group to type up for next week.

Me, Hubby & Little Red
are in the middle of making a volcano.

It is currently drying and then we are going to paint it.
Little Red is so funny, he didn't mind making the balls of newspaper
but he wouldn't help with the paste.
We used wallpaper paste and newspaper to make the shape.
We'll hopefully get it finished next weekend and then the fun can begin.

I am Reading
Fifty Shades of Grey
at the moment.
I will say the book has opened my eyes and is detailed.
If you don't like reading s*x scenes I wouldn't read it.
I would however say these moments are well written
and don't make you cringe whilst you read.
The characters are easy to connect with and well worth a read.
I'll review it more once I've finished reading it.

adding or not.

You can have it plain

With the basic features

With the side wings but without the forehead

.With the forehead but with no flames

Or with everything

I loved making this hat and I am sure

Guest Blogger Week 18 Susan Kennedy

I would like to say a huge welcome
to Susan
&

Today I'm working on tapestry crochet! I love it, for some reason it never occurred to me to change colors so easily. You just start out with two or more yarns, and the ones which are not part of the design at the moment are just being carried along and are worked on top of. You can see in the photo above: that blue variegated yarn is just cruising along, hidden...UNTIL it's needed! Then you insert your hook, pick up the blue, and finish the sc with it. There's a lot more to it than that, if you want you can find any number of youtube videos on tapestry crochet.

I find it exciting to be able to create a repeating design with graph paper, the way knitters and crocheters have done for ages -- but to do so without annoying color changes! The catch is that three or more colors can get a bit bulky.

It's a switch from my usual applique and flower designs. My latest in that vein is a chameleon inspired by Pascal (in "Tangled"). You can find him in the store links below, so if you're so inclined, check out my latest at My Etsy Pattern Store or at My Ravelry Pattern Store
My 4-Chapter Mini Treasury

is also on Ravelry right now for $9.99. It's one of my many small, low-commitment project collections!
Thanks for looking and keep that hook in your hand, it'll keep you out of trouble!

Thank you ever so much Susan.
Tapestery Crochet looks very interesting!
I haven't tried it yet but I think I'll give it a go.
I hope you will all join me in thanking Susan
for her wonderful post.
I also hope you will pop over
and see more of her wonderful work.

I've Made Friday Week 14

Wow the end of the working week already!
I hope you have had a really good week.

Little Red wants to make a volcano this weekend
so we are looking forward to having
lots of fun making lots of mess :-)

Little Red has been working really hard
at his colouring this week.
I am so proud of how he is doing

He also made his fathers day card at grannies

We have also made a pirate hook from one
of his make it books:

He wants to make more from this book so look
out for more pirate things coming.
Little Red loves this book
because there are lots of things we can make together
and he loves being a pirate
Book:

Now onto what I've been making this week:

I made my dad a cleric for a little silly fathers day present.
I got him an amazon voucher as well but I wanted something to give him.
My dad is a trained reader at church so I thought it was
something he would like.
This pattern is from:
Book:

I also made some bunting
for our living room:

I got the free pattern from:
It's a really easy pattern to follow and I hope you agree
it turned out really well.

I have read a few books this week:

Accidentally married to...... a Vampire
by Mimi Jean Pamfiloff
Kindle:

I love the way Mimi writes!
The story has twists and turns all the way through.
She has a fantastic use of sarcasm!
The story is about a normal girl about to start her life in the world
but what she doesn't know is she is destined to be the true love
of a Vampire.
Niccolo is a Vampire looking for an escape from his queen.
A God Cemil gives him an out but is it that simple.
There are steamy scenes in this book so be warned ;-)
I really enjoyed this book and would recommend
it as a really good read.
I give this book 4 out of 5

The next book I read is a short story:
Madly (Book 1) (Madly Series)
by M.Leighton
Kindle:

This is the first book in the series
and is setting the scene for the rest.
It is only short to give you a taster of what is to come.
Madly seems a normal girl to her fellow students on land
but she is really a Mer princess.
Her world is turned upside down
when there is a prison escape from Atlas.
This book is a good set-up for the series
and keeps you wanting to read more.
It's gives you an opportunity to meet the characters
and learn how the story is unfolding.
I enjoyed this book and am looking forward
to reading the 2nd in the series.
I give this book 3 out of 5.

The last book I have finished is:
2nd Chance by James Patterson
Kindle:

Book:

This is the 2nd book in the
Women's Murder Club
DI Lyndsay Boxer is called to the scene
of a shooting at a church where one girl
has been shot and killed.
The bug question to answer is was the girl
shot randomly or was she targeted?
I really enjoy the twists in these books and love the characters.
The women are human and have their own flaws but
when they work together they are unstoppable.
They get to the bottom of any case using each of their own know how.
This story was just as good as the 1st and will
be reading more!
My only negative is the ending! For some reason
at the end the author went into a baseball player
and I think it spoils the ending.
Apart from that I would recommend this
book if you like a good murder and cop story.
I give this book 4 out of 5

Now what have you been making this week?
